LESSER HORSESHOE BATS - waking from torpor

Witley Court 2013

The video above is one of our favourites!

You can see how one bat, in this instance a lesser horseshoe (Rhinolophus hipposideros), appears brighter than the surrounding bats.

Why? The bat is waking up for the night ahead of the others.

Several lesser horseshoe (Rhinolophus hipposideros) bats were seen in flight around their roosting site.

The lesser horseshoe bats - seen here as bright yellow figures – are clearly distinguished between the background.

After an exciting visit to Witley Court in November 2013, Access Ecology is very delighted to incorporate thermal imaging into the services we can offer.

SWARMING BATS

Rotherham swarming site 2014

Here's some great footage of swarming bats at a cave near Rotherham taken using our camera by South Yorkshire Bat Group.

Following surveys during 2013 and 2014, this is the first confirmed swarming site in South Yorkshire!!

Doncaster swarming site 2014

Here's some more great footage of swarming bats at a cave near Doncaster taken using our camera by South Yorkshire Bat Group in September 2014.

Another swarming site confirmed in South Yorkshire!
